Year 2 (June 27th): As we are in our final few weeks of Spanish, I asked the children to make a list of all the nouns they could remember in Spanish along with the pronoun el or la depending on whether the word is masculine or feminine). I was delighted that the children came up with a wide range of words ranging from mariposa (butterfly), pan (bread), sombrero (hat), and calcetin (sock). We then had a game of pairs where the children had to match up and pronounce the names of different animals in Spanish.

Reception (June 13th): We enjoyed 'un picnic' today with a bear called 'Pablo'.  Remember the words for apple (una manzana) and banana (plátano)?

Year 1 (June 13th): We had fun miming different sports.  Los deportes: el fútbol, el tenis, la gimnasia, la natación.  Remember as many as you can for next week.  Me gusta = I like (it's pleasing to me).

Year 2 (May 16th): Lección 18.  Parts of the body.  The children enjoyed a game of "Simon dice" (Simon Says).  Also 'shops' & the different things that can be purchased from each of them.  Please ask your child what they might buy from a panadería.

Year 2 (May 9th): In today's lesson we went back to Lesson 17 on page 36 to finish off the second half of the lesson. We learnt that to like in Spanish was gustarse and I like (singular) was me gusta (literally it is pleasing to me) and me gustan (plural), ie me gustan las peras (pears). We also welcomed a new member to the group.

If the children would like to, it would be good if they could listen to track 81 on their CD.

Reception (May 9th): Our topic today was 'la granja'.  Enjoy colouring your animal at home.  Can you remember the three animals for next week?  una vaca = a cow, un cerdo = a pig, una gallina = a hen.

Year 1 (May 9th): Mi casa: Listen again to the song, ¿Quién está en mi casa? and the story, 'mi casa' (tracks 20 to 23, pages 26 & 27).  Count los tigres, los cocodrilos and los elefantes on page 27.  Try one or more activities on pages 49 - 53 to get your name in the box straight away!

Reception (April 18th): A fabulous first session, really well done everyone!  Some key words/phrases today were: 'hola', 'me llamo ... ' (I'm called ...), un elefante (an elephant), un mono (a monkey), un cocodrilo (a crocodile), un león (a lion), gracias (thank you) and adiós (goodbye).

Year 1 (April 18th): 'Ven a Jugar' (Come and Play) - listen again to the song (CD 2, track 16) and story (CD 2, track 13).  Remember at least two animals for next week: una tortuga (a tortoise); una mariposa (a butterfly); una oruga (a caterpillar); un caracol (a snail).  Remember, smiley faces = prizes!

Year 2 (April 18th): It was lovely to catch up with the children after the Easter break. As we had a new recruit, we spent some time recapping on the different sounds that exist in Spanish compared to English; so ce, ci are pronounced like thay and thi, j like a guttural h, ge and gi like hey and hee. We then finished Lesson 17. Password for next lesson is "pastel", ask your children if they can tell you what it means!

June 28th: Today we spent some time revising  the different  parts of the face, la boca (mouth), el pelo (hair), la nariz (nose). We then went outside to make the most of a dry spell to look for caracoles (snails), mariquitas (ladybirds) and orugas (caterpillars).

May 17th:  Today we enjoyed a story about about a young boy who built a sand castle too close to the sea and how, when he fell asleep, the waves smashed into the sandcastle. However, the two main characters of the book, Tina and Mifú came to the rescue with ice creams. We then listened to the poem on Page 55 of their book and we underlined the "y" sound that is the "LL" in Spanish. Do play the CD during the Half Term break and I look forward to seeing the children at the beginning of June. Felices vacaciones
May 10th: Today we listened to a story about a bird that flew into the children's house and couldn't find its way out until one of the toys opened the windows (ventanas) and doors (puertas). See page 26 and track 20.  We then played a game whereby the children had to guess who was behind them by saying Quien Es? In a strange voice. We also practised listening to words with the LL sound in Spanish (y as y in Yellow).

April 21st: It was great to be back after the Easter break. We had a birthday in the group so we sang happy birthday in Spanish (it is the same tune as in English with the words "cumpleaños feliz (x2) te deseamos todos, cumpleaños feliz).
We then listened to a story about a little bird being encouraged to find its wings by it's family (see page 28, track 26).

March 22nd: Today we spent some time listening to the Spanish equivalent of the song 'Five in a bed and the little one says "roll over"' (in your children's book and on the CD if you want to listen again). We then had a little Easter egg hunt and the children had to tell me the colours of the eggs before they could eat them. Most colours were ok but all the children had a mental block with "morado" - purple, despite all of us shouting it at the tops of our voices over and over! So, do ask your children if you get the chance what purple is in Spanish. Felices Pascuas.
